Blog Tour: Shadow Dancer - Courtney Rene - Author Interview

Today, Courtney Rene is here with an interview courtesy of the Teen Book Scene blog tour for her book, Shadow Dancer. Thanks for being here, Courtney! You can follow along with the tour here, or by clicking through the banner. Enjoy!

What is your favorite line from Shadow Dancer?

What? Pick only ONE line? There are so many parts that I just love in this book.

A. This is my absolutely favorite section.

“So what other powers do we have? Can we fly?” I was suddenly excited again. If we get to pop in and out of the shadows, what else could we do?

“No, we don't fly.”

“Well do we get to live forever? Oh, that would be sooo cool. Do we heal immediately upon getting hurt?” I was really going to like being a Shadow Walker.

“Sunny, no we don't live forever, we. . .”

“Well can I at least read minds or something? What good is jumping in and out of shadows if you can't do anything else with it?”

Its one of my favorites because I can see Sunny bouncing around excitedly trying to understand and thinking about what it means and what she can do and just being almost giddy with it. I can also see Leif getting frustrated and annoyed with her.

B. This is my favorite line.

“Are you sure I don’t have a color?”

Mainly because I can see her pouting while she says it. Why doesn’t she have a color? It’s just not fair.

Uh oh. You are walking down the street when you notice a fight ahead of you. If you join in to help the underdog, you will both be outnumbered. Which character do you call for backup, and why them?

I would call in Gavin. He is a kick butt type of guy. No fear in him at all from what I can tell. Plus I think he likes a good fight, gets a real kick out it. So in a fight, he would be my first call.

If you could trade places with one of your characters, who would you choose and why?

I would trade places with Tara. She seems like such a happy person. Her life is set and laid out before her. Her boyfriend is actually a nice guy and he genuinely cares about her. I think I constructed her life too perfectly, which is why I wouldn’t mind having it.

What would you do if you were placed in Sunny's position? Would you do anything differently?

I am not such a trusting soul as our Sunny is in this book, granted that is part of her growth, but she is very naïve. I would not blindly follow Leif and his group. They proved to be liars and deceivers, yet still she believes in them. Otherwise, I don’t think I would change much. She is on a new path, and I can’t wait to see where it takes her.

If you could have any type of superpower or ability, what would you choose?

I wrote Shadow Dancer because I think the ability to be invisible is the greatest superpower out there. I wish I could do that. The times in my life that I could have used that are too many to even count. Still to this day, I wish I could just hide in invisibility.

I LOVE these answers, Courtney! Shadow Dancer sounds amazing. I can't wait to read it!
Thank you again for being here today!

----------------

Sunny has a gift that she has no idea how to use, until she meets Leif, a boy from the kingdom of Acadia, on the other side of the shadows.

Leif teaches Sunny about Shadow Walkers and how to use her new found gifts. As they grow closer and their gifts grow stronger, a threat arrives. The Shadow Guard has been sent to bring Sunny back to Acadia, to determine if she is a threat to the king as the rightful ruler of Acadia.

As Leif and Sunny prepare to defend themselves, Sunny finds that Leif has also been sent to bring Sunny back to the kingdom but for very different reasons. As a battle for possession of Sunny wages, she is struggling to come to turns with her feelings of inadequacy regarding controlling her gifts as well as the hurt regarding the lies and deceit of everyone around her.

Oh, I loved the questions and the answers here. Hearing which your fave part is, Courtney. Sunny is so funny. I love her sarcasm and humour when she's in "training". Invisibility... yes please!
