Blog Tour: Calli - Jessica Lee Anderson - Author Book Picks

Jessica Lee Anderson is here today with a Book Picks post courtesy of the Teen Book Scene blog tour for her book, Calli. Thank you for being here today, Jessica! You can follow along with the tour here, or by clicking through the banner. Enjoy!
You’ll mostly find young adult novels in my “library” with some books on the writing craft scattered on the shelves as well as some other nonfiction for research purposes.
Here are two books I can’t wait to read:

THE DOWNSIDE OF BEING UP by Alan Lawrence Sitomer

My dear friend, Stephanie Pellegrin, recommended this novel, saying it was one of the funniest books she’d ever read. I read the first page and have to say that I laughed out loud (which is something I rarely do when reading).

PARADISE by Jill S. Alexander

Jill is absolutely charming, and when I heard her speak about PARADISE at a library event, I knew it would be a must read. The story about a small town rock band seems just as charming as its author.

And here are two books that I recently read and completely loved:

SOLSTICE by PJ Hoover

PJ Hoover is one of my dearest friends, and I know lots of people gush over their friend’s books, but let me just say that this is a book YOU MUST READ. I’d read this novel before publication and was completely transported into the unique setting and the lives of the characters, Piper’s especially. I loved this novel so much that I read it after publication and loved it even more!

LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR by Stephanie Perkins

I cared for each one of the characters and identified with Lola. I secretly wish for her kind of sparkle. In addition to the love story, one of the things I appreciated the most about this book was how Stephanie Perkins portrayed the dads. As an author of a novel with lesbian moms, I’m thrilled to see contemporary YA novels that positively and realistically portray same-sex parents.

I have to agree with you! I absolutely LOVED "Solstice" as well! I need to check out the others on your list though! Thank you so much for being here today, Jessica!

--------

Fifteen-year-old Calli has just about everything she could want in life—two loving moms, a good-looking boyfriend, and a best friend who has always been there for support. An only child, Calli is excited when her parents announce that they want to be foster parents. Unfortunately, being a foster sister to Cherish is not at all what Calli expected. First Cherish steals Calli’s boyfriend, then begins to pit Calli’s moms against one another, and she even steals Calli’s iPod. Tired of being pushed around and determined to get even, Calli steals one of Cherish’s necklaces. But this plan for revenge goes horribly awry, and Cherish ends up in juvenile detention.

Isolating herself from her moms, her boyfriend, and even her best friend, Calli wrestles with her guilt and tries to figure out a way to undo the damage she’s caused. When her moms are asked to take on another foster child, Calli sees an opportunity to make amends for her past mistakes.

Funny, moving, and emotionally rich, Calli is a portrait of an endearing young woman caught between adolescence and adulthood, striving to do the right thing even when all of her options seem wrong.
Synopsis taken from goodreads.
